After 6 or so years of experiencing practically total hearing loss on one side, I never quite felt that I'd been given a credible explanation of what had gone wrong and I found that my quality of life was suffering. It was at this point I was referred to see Mr Trotter. I remember the initial consultation well, Mr Trotter questioned and listened to a description of my symptoms and ran several tests; in no time at all he felt sure that my problem was otosclerosis-the stapes was not working as it should be. Mr Trotter explained fully the workings of the ear and what corrective surgery would entail. He was careful to point out that his diagnosis could only be confirmed 100% when he looked at what was happening in my ear. Mr Trotter's professionalism, attitude, care and positivity meant that I had absolute confidence in his ability and no doubts about proceeding. Before the surgery the risks were explained fully and bench-marked against previous volumes of procedures-to allow me to make an informed decision. The surgery was booked and performed at Heartlands Hospital. I felt complete trust in Mr Trotter's ability and optimistic for what we hoped the outcome to be. Mr Trotter visited me after the operation to confirm that his diagnosis had been correct and that he had replaced my stapes. I was sitting up, having eaten and was hopeful of 'early release' ; all was well and I was allowed home on the same day. The surgery was a complete success. I have had the good fortune to remain in Mr Trotter's care for the past four years and whenever I see him, he demonstrates the same qualities that I saw during my initial visit. I feel that he genuinely cares about his patients and feels satisfied that he has been able to 'make a difference'. I visited Solihull Hospital last week and felt welcomed, fully informed and well looked after by the ENT Team. Mr Trotter was (as always) keen to ensure that my hearing is as it should be and he showed me a clip of similar surgery-explaining the procedure. The surgery performed and the skill Mr Trotter has is amazing; incredible that such complex and intricate work can be performed by (a very steady!) human hand. What can I say? 'Thank you' does not cover the gratitude I feel for the outstanding care and successful outcome provided by Mr Trotter and his team. I had always felt 'cut off' from the world, slightly vulnerable (that I couldn't hear people approaching) and less confident, because of missing speech, especially in social situations. My hearing aid made my ear sore (it was huge!) and sounds were 'flat' or distorted. Only now my hearing has been restored (and feels balanced), do I appreciate hearing depth and clarity of sound, which I hadn't experienced for years. Hearing conversation, effortlessly, has transformed my quality of life. Then there's birdsong to enjoy, the delicate chime of a glass to the excitement of a Lancaster roaring overhead and the sound of the waves: the world is stereo again. I am not able to suggest how improvements could be made to the service I received. I feel extremely privileged to have experienced the excellent care, professionalism, skill and successful outcome provided by Mr Trotter. I have no reservations whatsoever, about recommending others to his exemplary care.

I found Mr. Trotter to be very polite, and informative. He listened to any questions, that i presented to him, and gave me very detailed, and honest answers. I have no hesitation, in having further treatments, from Mr. Trotter and can recommend him, very highly. The same applies to his team, of dedicated staff also. I know of other patients, who are under the care of Matthew Trotter and his team, and they also speak very highly of the care and treatments, given to them regards and gratitude from Abe Wilson

I have been a patient of Mr Trotter for several years and he has performed a few operations on my hearing problems, recently I had a Baha attract operation which has restored my hearing. I feel Mr Trotter listens with great care to his patients and explains the issues to patients very well, in the sense as it is very worrying and anxious time and Mr Trotter makes one feel comfortable and makes the time to get to know his patients. He is a shinning example of what great care from a Doctor should be and I feel other Doctors should follow his approach and learn from him. On one occasion that I recall I had an issue and Mr Trotter was on leave, he was informed about my situation and made arrangements in order to see me the following week. On another occasion I had seen another doctor and Mr Trotter had been informed and arranged a follow-up appointment to see him. He keeps informed of patients and make sure they are getting the best care possible. I for one am grateful for the care he has given me and I am grateful he is my Doctor. I would recommend Mr Trotter to anyone. I will forever be thankful to Mr Trotter.

Having spent some time off work with vertigo I booked an appointment to see Mr Trotter. He spent time asking questions about the symptoms and then explained that he thought I was suffering from BPPV and went through some manipulations of my head which cured the problem. He explained all about BPPV and its effects and took time to reassure me that it was unlikely to return. Overall a very efficient consultant who took time to explain in detail, and in layman's terms, how the whole system of balance works. I hope I never have the problem again but if I had any other ENT problems I would try to ensure that it was Mr Trotter that I was referred to.

I saw Mr Trotter on several occasions during my treatment and always found him approachable, patient, professional and reassuring. At my initial appointment I was quite anxious but but he soon put me at my ease, taking the time to explain matters fully and answering my many questions, without rushing me. I cannot thank him enough for his care. If I should need to see an ENT specialist again, I would want to see Mr Trotter and have no hesitation in recommending him. Thank you so much Mr Trotter.
